Work on Tasks From Slack: What Syncs and Which Way
Last updated: October 30, 2026
When an account has a Slack channel set up, new tasks post there as cards your team can act on without opening Centralize. Here's exactly what moves between Slack and Centralize, and in which direction.

Before you start
Task cards only post if the account has a Slack channel set up and the task notification types are turned on (task assignments, task updates, task completions). The account's owner or an organization Admin/Owner chooses the channel. See 📄 Set Up Account Slack Channels.
Tip: When you create a task, the form shows "No Slack channel configured" under the account if it doesn't have one.
What syncs
Centralize → Slack | Slack → Centralize | |
|---|---|---|
New task assignments | ✅ Posted as a task card (when Task assignments is on) | — |
Status, priority, assignee, due date | ✅ Later changes show in Slack (when Task updates is on) | ✅ Change them from the task card |
Mark complete | ✅ (when Task completions is on) | ✅ From the task card |
Task cancellations | ✅ (when Task cancellations is on) | — |
Creating, editing, or deleting tasks with Centra | — | ✅ Ask Centra in a DM to the Centralize app |
Replies in a task's Slack thread | ✅ Replies written in the task's Slack conversation in Centralize post back to the thread | ✅ Thread replies sync into the task's Slack conversation, including in private channels |
Comments added only in Centralize | Stay in Centralize. People are notified individually (in-app, and by email or Slack DM based on their settings), not in the channel. | — |
Note mentions | ✅ Can post to the channel | — |
Note: Replies in a task's Slack thread sync into the task's Slack conversation in Centralize, including in private channels, and replies written there post back to the thread. For a reply to sync, Centralize must be in the channel and the person replying must have access to that account in Centralize. Replies from guests, bots, and external (shared) channels aren't synced. Comments added only in Centralize stay in the app, and other messages in the channel aren't brought into Centralize.
Good to know
A task can have more than one Slack thread. Each notification posts as its own thread, and the threads aren't combined. In the task, choose which Slack conversation you want to read or reply to.
Older Slack messages aren't brought into Centralize.
Files, attachments, and reactions don't sync, and Slack replies aren't counted as unread comments in Centralize.
Edit or delete Slack replies
Replies written in Slack: edit or delete them in Slack, and the change updates in Centralize.
Replies written in the task's Slack conversation in Centralize: the author can edit or delete them there, and the change updates in Slack.
Notifications for Slack replies
Replies brought in from Slack aren't posted back to Slack again, so you won't see duplicates.
The task's creator, assignee, and anyone who already replied in that Slack thread won't get the usual comment emails or Slack DMs for those replies, since they've seen them in Slack. In-app notifications still show up.
This only applies to routine comment alerts. @mentions still notify people as usual.
Change a task from Slack
Find the task card in the account's channel and expand it.
Change the status, priority, assignee, or due date, or click Complete.
The change saves to the task in Centralize right away.
You can only make changes you'd be allowed to make in Centralize.
Use Centra in Slack
Open the Centralize app in Slack (under Apps, or the assistant pane) and send it a message. Centra can create, update, read, or delete tasks for you, and changes save to Centralize the same way.
Centra replies in a thread. Keep replying in that thread for follow-up questions, or start a new message to start fresh.
Centra only works in a direct message. @mentioning Centralize in a channel won't get a reply.
Centra matches you by the email on your Slack account, so it should be the same email you use for Centralize.
This isn't the same as capturing customer messages
Centralize has a separate Slack feature that brings messages from shared customer channels into Centralize to keep relationship context current. That's unrelated to task cards. Task cards post to your internal account channel and only sync the task fields and thread replies listed above.
To set up the channel, see 📄 Set Up Account Slack Channels.
